Outline of Research
Thai cremation books are important basic materials for Thai studies. This project focuses on the Cremation book collections held by the Kyoto University Center for Southeast Asian Studies Library and the Pridi Banomyong Library of Thammasat University, and carry out the following tasks: 1. Organize material information and make it possible to search materials on the OPAC web catalog, 2. Construct a platform for sharing bibliographcal information and materials between the two libraries, 3. Standardizing the bibliographical information description format with American and Australian libraries that hold cremation book collections, 4. Considering methods for evaluating cremation books and their academic use.
Purpose of Research, Its Significance and Expected Results, etc
This research project aims to undertake the following initial attempts: 1. Sharing materials between institutional libraries in Japan and Thailand, The implementation of the E-DDS platform will contribute to the development of Thai studies in both countries. 2. Proposing standardization for Thai material information descriptions as a Thai-led initiative in response to the Western-led metadata description rules. 3. Providing an opportunity to contribute Thai studies through the use of cremation books.
This project will organize an international workshop with libraries from Japan, Thailand, the United States, and Australia to discuss standardizing the bibliographical information description format for Thai cremation books. The outcome of this research project will be the digital publication of an analysis of cremation book publishing trends and a comprehensive bibliography.
